Healing Resources
Dear Patient:
Welcome to the Milne Medical Center. As a patient, we invite you to actively participate with your physician in establishing and maintaining optimum wellness. With this partnership you will gain some new insights, and experience exciting health changes.
Our goal at the Milne Medical Center is to help you overcome your present health problems and enable you to lead a more productive and fulfilling life. We want to prevent illness by diagnosing individual underlying weaknesses and seek to strengthen the immune system to restore your body's internal energy. Most importantly, we desire to teach you how to become more involved and responsible for maintaining personal health.
As physicians we realize that the body has an impressive capability to heal itself. However, when a patient's body is not strong enough to complete the healing process on its own, we are often able to stimulate the body's innate healing power through careful, individualized treatment.
In the following pages we will discuss in greater detail the various diagnostic and treatment methods that are used at the Milne Medical Center. Because we have observed their beneficial effects firsthand - on ourselves, our families, and thousands of our patients from all parts of the world - we have incorporated these proven complementary forms of medicine in our Center.
We hope this handbook will serve to stimulate your interest, teach you more about complementary ways to improve your health, and become your personal workbook of health knowledge. Please refer to it often and feel free to ask questions at any time.
Best wishes on your journey towards better health.
A Message to the Reader
Immediately following the transition into the new millenium, there is much talk about enlightenment. Millions are embracing a New Age; words like “lightbody” and phrases such as “search for enlightenment” have entered our vocabularies in recent years. Ideas of this stature often feel unapproachable—something only to be considered by the select few who spend long years at the foot of a remote guru, and become immersed in the confines of spiritual esoterica – yet, this is not the case.
Consequently, from my perspective such beliefs about enlightenment can actually limit the true meaning of “waking up” and realizing personal human potential. While valid for some, such lofty approaches tend to create an even wider gap between the ordinary and the extraordinary capabilities within each of us. As the rapid rise of retail spirituality attests, this gulf can be disastrous, thereby forcing people to reject enlightenment completely.
We are proposing far more than an allegory for human capacity. To us, enlightenment is a practical state of being—literally, being physically touched by the sun from within by individual particles of photon light energy from the sun. Moreover, it is the depletion of this photon energy in the human species that is the major source of chaos in our lives. Since our bodies are not equipped with solar panels, logic suggests that the next best way to generate an internal sun is through the ingestion of sunbathed, photon-rich foods as a means of energy production -- human photosynthesis. Thus to simplify, the age of enlightenment is the era of re-recognizing our connection to dietary sunlight energy, or as we will refer to in the rest of the book, photon light energy.
This book is intended as an informational and experiential tool for maximizing personal health and energy. It is our intention that the information that follows will illuminate your search for whole body wellness as it offers you a new way to access your full potential. Calling upon scientific knowledge, real life case studies and innovative thinking, we challenge the status quo by showing you that stimulants, prescription drugs, and the standard American diet robs you of your innate body wisdom and eventually traps you in the web of patient-hood and disease.
Because the methods in this book are by definition considered to be alternative methods, many of them may not have been investigated and/or approved by any government or regulatory agency. However, this does not diminish their effectiveness, nor does it suggest that they are unsafe or unproven. We believe that if you read and study this workbook and follow its guidelines, you will find your personal path towards enlightened health, and further empower yourself to be more in control of your health for the rest of your life.
Health is your birthright; since you are ultimately responsible for it, you must begin by committing yourself to learning new ideas, being open to using them in your life, and changing personal habits that may have impeded good health in the past. Once you commit to this process, we will be your partners in guiding you towards improved overall wellness.

THE ENERGY FOR LIFE WELLNESS MODEL
Our goal is to help you restore and/or maintain the greatest health possible. Disease states will have a lesser chance of taking over a healthy, optimally functioning body. To this end, it is important to address each aspect of the whole person: mind, body, and spirit.
INTRODUCTION
Many people keep their cars in better condition than they keep themselves. Traveling in crowded trains, breathing polluted air, dashing out for hurried meals, and consuming “fast foods”, which are processed and over-refined, are primary factors that hinder wellness. As we continually submit to work pressures and social demands that are excessive, eventually some part of us begins to break down, leading to a deteriorated state of health. When the discomfort becomes intolerable, we go to the doctor and ask for help. We want to be “fixed up” quickly so that we can return to our complicated and tiresome lifestyle. As a result, prescriptions for sedatives, stimulants, tranquilizers, and “pain killers” soon follow. Patients are advised to take it easy for a while, but this is not a sufficient answer.
Health is a state of harmony between our physical, mental, and spiritual states. We all have the power to heal ourselves, but sometimes we need help. In fact, most illness is a positive, educational event in our lives…if we are able to interpret the event properly. The search for medical help is not an easy task. All of us realize that we need conventional medicine for acute emergencies. However, this form of medicine does not address prevention or wellness. Over the past decade, increasing interest and concern have been expressed about the nature of our health system. As a result, some of the barriers of conventional and complementary medicine are beginning to break down. If one were to define the difference, it would still be true to say that conventional medicine is directed towards man as a set of levers, chemical reactions, tubes, and pumps, whereas natural therapies focus on the whole individual – mind, body, and spirit.
Please remember, as physicians it is important for us to ensure that you are not suffering from an emergent medical condition that must be treated immediately by conventional methods. However, in numerous other medical circumstances, promoting health and preventative measures constitute the other end of the spectrum with regard to health care…wellness care.
COMPONENTS OF WELLNESS
The mind, body, and spirit are inseparable, and one domain cannot be affected without comparably affecting the other two components. It is in understanding this concept of wellness that makes self-regulation and healing possible.
BODY
To achieve a physically healthy body requires good energetic nutrition, exercise, plenty of oxygen, and the capacity to deeply relax.
NUTRITION
We are what we eat! We would not think twice about putting second grade, low octane fuel into a beautiful new car, yet we often persist in putting low energy “junk foods” such as sugar, white flour, and processed foods into our bodies. Through proper education and discipline, we can gradually change our eating habits, and eat the foods that provide our bodies with the greatest energy potential. The highest energy foods transform the sun’s light PHOTON ENERGY into a form of energy suitable for the human body to use efficiently. Vegetables, fruits, and whole grains constitute the fundamental, essential highest energy foods. Consuming the proper fats, and limiting the intake of red meats, fried foods, and most milk products is highly important. Eating only moderate amounts of fish and poultry is ideal, and ingesting 5-8 glasses of pure water is a necessity.
EXERCISE
Exercise is an important part of any health-promoting program. Through research, we have concluded that it is ineffective to encourage exercise when a patient does not have enough energy to perform any type of exercise or activity. Once a person begins to feel better, an exercise program that helps to improve flexibility, muscle tone, and general cardiovascular health, can then enhance one’s energy. The exercises recommended may include walking, stretching, aerobic exercise, and other sports, depending upon the individual’s preferences. Most importantly, each person should find an exercise program or activity that is both fun and practical in order to promote regular participation.
BREATHING
If an individual had the opportunity to choose a tool, exercise, or technique that would maximally affect personal health, then breathing would be selected as the most significant factor affecting health. Breathing exercises establish deep, diaphragmatic breathing, which provides maximum oxygenation of the entire body. These exercises can help reduce anxiety and pain, promote tissue healing, and increase energy. SEE THE SECTION ON BREATHING.
MIND
BIOFEEDBACK/VISUALIZATION/MEDITATION
Over the past twenty years, may studies have demonstrated that humans can be taught to regulate their physiological processes with the help of biofeedback devices. Another way of controlling our physiology is through personalized, creative visualizations, and meditation. Relaxation is the natural way to reduce stress and eliminate negative side effects. By mastering a few simple techniques, you can create a state of relaxation whenever and wherever you desire. SEE THE SECTION ON VISUALIZATION.
SPIRIT
Many studies have demonstrated that the spiritual well being of a person can often affect mental and physical bodily functions. Spiritual enlightenment is a very personal, individualized process. As physicians, we hope to be of assistance in this process by helping you to optimize individual bodily functions. As a result, your spiritual development will become easier and more enjoyable.
